“I don’t know how to put this, but I am kind of a big deal” – Ron Burgundy
It is funny when you are making artwork for clients. A lot of times you don’t know what your artwork is for, where it will be used or if it will even see the light of day. Sometimes you find out that your art was used in a big way. I work with Attraction Studios and a while back, they were commissioned to do a “painting” of Jemaine Clement holding a bloody baby Zebra. No one had any idea what it was for, but imagine their surprise when it showed up as a major component to a scene in the movie Dinner for Schmucks (2010).
Anyway, I recently improved a model called “Blip Man”, rigged it and created a few poses that were requested by the client. Imagine my surprise when a friend called and told me that he saw them on Billboards to and from work (the billboards in the video aren’t the actual billboards unfortunately). That doesn’t happen every day.
It is always fun to see my art used in a “big way” (billboard pun), like the watch I worked on that was used in a major product launch for Will.i.am’s Puls Smartwatch Unveiling. It is kind of weird how things work out sometimes.
